July AC Digest

Dear Artists, Culture Bearers, and Friends of AC,

July is a month of building on momentum. As festival submissions transition into the next phase, public art takes shape, and new exhibitions open, artists continue sharing their work with communities throughout the region. In this issue of the AC Digest, you’ll find updates on the Inland Film Festival, a recap of our Pride DTSB Art Walk, and ways to support Arts Avenue through our Art Supply Drive. We’re also highlighting Estudio Aire Artist-in-Residence Fernanda Durazo’s workshops and pop-up exhibition, City of Ontario Artist Microgrant workshops and public art experiences, and opportunities to join our growing roster of Community Teaching Artists. However you choose to participate, there’s no shortage of ways to experience and support the arts this month!

As always, this issue is about staying connected, sharing what’s possible, and continuing to build the cultural life of our region together.

Alejandro Gutierrez

Executive Director, Arts Council of San Bernardino County

The Countdown to the Inland Film Festival Starts Now

Keep an eye out for selection emails, award nominations, networking opportunities, and festival announcements leading up to October 16–17. Visit our website to explore everything IFF has to offer, and follow us on Instagram to stay connected every step of the way.

Pride Was In Motion At DTSB Art Walk!

Last month, Downtown San Bernardino came alive as we celebrated Pride at the DTSB Art Walk. The night was full of music, movement, art, and community.

DJ Brownsounds kept the energy high while Ritmo Queer got everyone moving with salsa and other Latin dance styles. Kiki House of Peaches brought ballroom culture to the dance floor, teaching runway, face, and more before inviting the community to show off their new moves in a friendly battle that had the crowd cheering all night.

Beyond the dance floor, visitors explored local artist vendors, created custom stickers with Arts Avenue Teaching Artist Jaxon Lopez, watched a live watercolor painting by former Estudio Aire Artist in Residence Ricardo Corona, and recharged with tacos and coffee from Masamigos.

Thank you to every artist, performer, community partner, volunteer, and neighbor who celebrated with us and made the night unforgettable.

Mark your calendars for our next DTSB Art Walk on September 25 as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!

Give Your Art Supplies a Second Life

Have extra art supplies collecting dust?

Give them a second life through our Arts Avenue Art Supply Drive. We’re collecting new and gently used materials to help stock our classrooms for the upcoming school year so we can continue providing free art supplies and after-school arts education to local youth.

Donations can be dropped off at the Arts Connection office between 10 AM and 3 PM. Not sure what to bring? Visit our website to see the supplies we need most, materials on our wish list, and creative extras our students would love to use.

Every donation helps keep creativity accessible for the next generation of artists.

Drawing from city archives, family photo albums, newspaper clippings, and historical imagery tied to the region’s citrus industry, the exhibition examines how local histories are preserved, omitted, and reinterpreted over time. Using digital photography, monoprints, linocuts, and layered archival materials, Durazo documents former citrus grove sites and changing downtown landscapes, encouraging visitors to reflect on how the city’s past continues to shape its present.
